Southern Section final four set as Palos Verdes advances

The US Lacrosse Southern Section final four is complete. Monday, north bracket No. 1 Palos Verdes beat No. 5 Loyola 14-1 to advance to Wednesday’s Los Angeles County championship game. The Sea Kings will take on No. 2-seeded Palisades at Redondo Union HS at 4 p.m.

Later Wednesday, the Orange County final matches No. 1 Corona del Mar against No. 3 San Clemente at Dana Hills HS at 7:30 p.m.

The north title game will be a rematch of a March nonleague contest in which Palos Verdes (19-2) beat Palisades (16-3), 16-2. The Sea Kings’ have won their three playoff games by a combined score of 57-9, and their only losses this season came during a spring-break trip to Virginia by scores of 10-9 and 9-8.

Corona del Mar (22-0) and San Clemente (15-6) have not faced each other this season, but they each faced six common opponents and each went 6-0 vs. those teams. Last season, San Clemente beat CdM 11-8 in the OC semifinal before losing to Foothill-Santa Ana 13-5 in the OC title game.

The US Lacrosse Southern Section championship game will be played Saturday, May 12, at Mission Viejo HS at 1 p.m.
