Last year, the Seattle Starz club took home four titles from the Cal Lax Classic, winning both U-13 divisions and both U-15 divisions. This year, Silverfin out of Thousand Oaks took the headlines with three division wins. Seattle still was impressive, though, winning two divisions and reaching the title game in three others.
Below is a brief recap of each division. Here is a small selection of photos from Sunday’s action at the Rancho Mission Viejo Riding Park in San Juan Capistrano.
U-13 Gold: Silverfin defeated Seattle Starz Grey 10-9 in the title game. Silverfin finished the tournament 6-0; Seattle Starz finished 4-2, with both losses coming against Silverfin by one goal each time.
U-13 Silver: Silverfin beat Seattle Starz Green 5-4 in overtime, avenging an early-morning 5-3 loss to Seattle in pool play. Seattle beat Trilogy West 2018 14-2 in one semifinal, while Silverfin edged the OC Crush 8-7 in the other semi to set up the rematch.
U-15 Gold: Seattle Starz Green beat Trilogy West 2017 Silver 11-6 in the title game. In pool play Saturday, Seattle Green had beaten Trilogy Silver 7-6. Trilogy finished the tournament 4-2, with both losses coming against Seattle, which was unbeaten at 5-0.
U-15 Silver: Seattle Starz Navy rolled through the tournament with six consecutive victories, outscoring opponents 70-14. Seattle beat Saddleback Starz 11-4 in the final, handing the Orange County club its only loss of the event.
High School Gold: NC Mavericks Elite edged Saddleback Starz 2014 5-3 in the final after holding off Team Panos 5-4 in a playoff and the OC Crush 4-3 in the semifinal.
High School Silver: Silverfin routed Seattle Starz 10-2 to claim the division title. The win gave the Thousand Oaks-based club its third division title of the event after both U-13 clubs won titles earlier. Silverfin outscored opponents 75-9 in winning six games.
