The third-seeded Newport Beach Lacrosse Club completed a come-from-behind 10-9 overtime victory over No. 1 South Bay last weekend to capture their second straight North Division championship in the Southern California Lacrosse League (SCLAX).
Newport Beach will face undefeated Quiksilver Lacrosse Club, the first seed from the South, which defeated No. 2 San Diego Lacrosse Club 13-5 in the South finals. The title game will be played this Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Del Mar Polo Grounds (Field 11) in conjunction with LXM|ATS San Diego.
In the first round of the playoffs, Newport Beach used a third-quarter surge to take the lead in what had been a back-and-forth game against No. 2 South Bay. Newport would go on to win the game 13-7. In the South Division’s first-round game, San Diego defeated No. 3 Adrenaline 8-7 in overtime after tying the game with under a minute in regulation. The No. 1 seeds in both divisions received a bye in the first round.
The Southern California Lacrosse League is a post-collegiate men’s league comprised of 11 teams in addition to 3 “D-League” teams from Los Angeles to San Diego.
