DH Elite offers preview of JSerra 2013 with Sand Storm title
If this weekend’s Sand Storm Lacrosse Festival was in any way a sneak peek at what’s in store for the spring regular season, keep an eye on JSerra Catholic out of San Juan Capistrano.
DH Lax, the club team for JSerra, swept through the Elite Division at Sand Storm, winning its five pool games by a combined score of 50-10. DH Elite then beat Mission Red out of San Diego’s Cathedral Catholic 8-2 in the final.
It’s not surprising DH played so well, given it’s roster — and that’s exactly why the Lions of JSerra should be fun to watch this spring — and the next few springs, as well. The DH roster at Sandstorm featured five JSerra players already committed to play NCAA Division I lacrosse. JSerra also has a sixth D-I commit who was not listed on the Sand Storm roster.
JSerra’s D-I commits on the DH roster for Sand Storm included junior LSM/D Tucker Guyot (Jackonsville University), sophomore D Chazz Dotson (Hofstra), sophomore G Gunner Garn (Michigan), senior M Cole Schleppy (Providence), sophomore A Jimmy Yanes (Hofstra). JSerra junior A Mitch Kingsley also has committed to Hofstra, though he was not on the Sand Storm roster.
JSerra and DH are coached by former Johns Hopkins star Kyle Harrison and former University of Maryland-Baltimore County player Maxx Davis — both of whom currently play on the LXM Pro circuit. That is an impressive collection of talent on the field and on the sidelines, and don’t overlook the fact that three of those D-I commits are sophomores and two others are juniors.
Last season, with a very young squad, JSerra was 10-9 overall and 6-2 in the Trinity League before losing 6-4 to Huntington Beach in the first round of the U.S. Lacrosse Southern Section tournament.
The Lions open their 2013 season Feb. 27 at Newport Harbor.
