Coaches vs. Cancer brings top MCLA teams to Palm Desert

Seven nationally ranked MCLA clubs — including defending champion and preseason No. 1 Colorado State and last year’s runner-up and current No. 2 Colorado — will compete this weekend in the first Lax Coaches vs. Cancer event, benefitting the American Cancer Society.

Local standout Chapman, ranked No. 5 in the preseason coaches poll, joins the two Colorado schools, along with No. 4 BYU, No. 8 Oregon, No. 10 Boston College and No. 12 Grand Canyon. San Diego State fills out the eight-team field that will play a total of eight games starting Thursday afternoon and running through Sunday.

Colorado State, Colorado, Chapman and Grand Canyon will be making their 2014 debuts this weekend, wasting no time in testing themselves against the best in the west. BYU comes into the weekend 3-0; Oregon, Boston College and San Diego State are 2-0.

All games will be played at Hovley Soccer Park in Palm Desert — 74735 Hovley Lane East, Palm Desert, CA 92260 — and admission is free.

Five of the weekend’s eight games will be streamed live by The Lacrosse Network via YouTube. Those games are noted below by an asterisk (*).
