Again, catching up a bit here and looking ahead to Sunday. Last weekend, Newport Beach handled South Bay 18-10 in the North Division playoffs of the SCLAX, while 40 Thieves held off San Diego Lacrosse Club 9-6 to advance to the South Division final.
This Sunday, those two playoff winners will go on the road to meet their divisions’ top seeds. Newport Beach, 7-3 during the regular season, will meet 9-1 Beverly Hills on Sunday at noon at St.Bernard HS in Playa Del Rey for the North Division title. Beverly Hills already has beaten Newport Beach twice this season.
In the South Division, top-seed Quiksilver will host 40 Thieves for the division title. The two clubs finished tied at 8-2 during the regular season, with Quiksilver earning last week’s bye by virtue of a coin flip. The game will be played Sunday at La Jolla HS with the faceoff set for 1 p.m.
Sunday’s winners will face off June 24 to determine the SCLAX champion. The game alternates annually between the North & South Divisions and this year will be hosted by the North Division winner.
